![]() Back to Letterboxing Air Mail Letterbox Placed: 9-1-02 Short walk. About 5-15 minutes one way. From the junction of Routes 89 and 195 in Mansfield Center, proceed on 195 towards UConn. Turn left onto Clover Mill Road. Proceed west on Clover Mill Road passing the parking area on the right for Schoolhouse Brook Park. Keep going until you see a sign indicating the Mansfield Animal Shelter. A bit past that sign on the right is a turn for Bicentennial Pond, Animal Shelter, and Public Works. Your starting point is on the opposite side of the street between the corner and the Mansfield Animal Shelter sign. There is a brown wooden post with white lettering which shows the start of the trail and it’s name, Clover Mill Trail. At times this post is difficult to see. Park along the side of the road on either side. Walk down the white blazed Clover Mill trail. You will notice going through the woods, that there is a stone wall on your right which follows the path. At one point the trail turns and the wall is very close to the path. You will come to a point going slightly downhill where there is an opening in the wall which is only 25 feet from the center of the trail. You will also see a tree with 2 white marks on it and large rocks on the left of the trail. Stop here and go left off the trail. Take 23 steps to a large sloping rock with smaller rocks on top of it. Take a reading of 80 degrees and go 28 steps to the left end of a very old fallen tree. Take a reading of 90 degrees and go 27 steps to part of a large rock ledge coming out of the ground. Go to its' left side. Take a reading of 90 degrees and go 24 steps to a large oak tree. Then go another 5 steps to another large oak tree. 3 steps further you will come to an opening in a stone wall. From this opening, take a reading of 60 degrees and take 12 steps to an oak tree with rocks and 1 red brick at the base of the tree. Get your air mail letterbox here.
